Cuba is an amazing destination for the traveler with a little patience and a taste for something different. The people are incredibly friendly and music pervades all aspects of life. Havana is a cosmopolitan city with architecture and cultures dating back to the 15th century. Travel beyond Havana can be somewhat time consuming. Rental cars are available, but driving requires some resourcefulness, as there are few maps or road signs! Rental rates are relatively expensive and gas is very expensive. There are significant rewards and it is easy to quickly get “far away”.
On the plus side, there are no cell phones, fast food restaurants or international chain companies. On the down side, the logistics of getting there can be challenging. It is not illegal for US citizens to travel to Cuba. It IS illegal for US citizens to spend money there. The distinction is very gray. All transactions are US dollars and US based credit cards are not accepted anywhere. The best flights are connections via Cancun, Montego Bay, or Montreal.
Please feel free to call me if you have any questions or want any further information on this wonderful destination!
